The Concept of Winning

When it comes to sports of course there is always a competitive aspect to it, but no one ever stops to discuss the consequences of winning. When we think of winning of course we only think about the nature, the glory, and the feeling of accomplishment that comes with it. The truth is with winning comes responsibilities, comes hard work, dedication, but also facing the challenges of those around you who only want to see you fall.

As an athlete we are all dreamers and believers because we want to be able to succeed in the sport that we dedicate most of our time to. As an athlete the best thing we can do for ourselves is to focus on the components that can help us improve and become a better version of ourselves. Often what we tend to do is lose focus of our own goals and motivations because when someone else is doing what we dream about doing we begin to compare ourselves. As athletes it is our duty to be able to overcome, grow, and work hard to those goals and standards that we set for ourselves. Anyone can be a winner—they just have to be willing to put in the work.

Winning is often not the main objective but more, so growth is. Each day is an opportunity to meet the level of success we just have to be conscious that it is a journey, and we have to be patient before we begin to see progress. Being patient is a skill to becoming a winner, nothing will ever be handed to you. Winning is a process it’s going to bed to make you recover, it is taking your vitamins every night, its fighting the negative thoughts in your head when it becomes hard, but most importantly its believing in yourself when no one else does.

The road to doesn’t start with winning a game or being a star athlete; the road to winning is making sacrifices and doing the most to be prepared when an opportunity presents itself. As athletes we train, manage classes, and even manage our social lives trying to find a balance but doing our best because our sport is something we love. It isn’t always easy but those who will shine through are those who are willing to take a chance and work towards accomplishing things that use to only be a thought and make it their reality.

Winning isn’t as gloried as we make it to be. Yes, it is a reward to the hard work that has been applied, but it has its flaws as well. With winning comes with those who want to be in your position, comes with the doubters, comes with the haters, and comes with negativity. Even in the position of winning one thing to always sit back and reflect on is there will always be room to continue to improve. Winning is a concept but the hard work and the journey it takes to reach any level of success is the best trophy you can ever receive because everyone can see your success, but no one knows your story and the journey you took to get there.
