Often as athletes we don’t want to stray away from the area of sports because for so many years this has been our passion, our escape, and our life. For some off our sports career ends after college especially if we don’t go on to peruse a professional career—but it doesn’t have to end there. Sometimes we don’t often consider that we can be involved in the world of sports and make a career out of it in many ways. The sports world needs Communications Majors, English Majors, Sports Management Majors, Kinesiology Majors, Business Majors, and the list can go on of the opportunities out there within the field of sports.

If sports are something that students remain passionate about and what to make a career out of it beyond participating in the actual sport itself, they can. There are jobs such as becoming an athletic director, in which takes part in managing budgets, arranging the travel and getting approval for competition days. Another job one can consider is becoming an athletic scout. With this title the duties consist of evaluating and seeking future athletes who potentially can perform at a higher level. The primary duty is to scout high school students and offering them, negotiating, and persuade them to join the University level team. Two jobs that most athletes go into college to study for are to become an athletic trainer or a coach. Both of these jobs are a way to still be involved in sports. Athletic trainers supervise each game and are available for any injuries or medical condition that may occur during the game or practice and give the athlete the proper treatment and advice to avoid or heal from their injuries. Becoming a coach is a way to help players grow in their skills and give them a sense of direction to stay fit, improve, and be prepared for game day.

Another top job to consider is to become an exercise physiologist, which consists of building training plans for athletes and focus on their flexibility and cardiovascular function. Although, if the student is more interested in marketing or social media aspect of sports a job to consider is becoming a sports marketing manager. With this job the employee focuses on managing the players, teams, stadiums, and events while also being in the position to have to advertise and create a brand for the team. The other job to consider for a Communication or English major is becoming a sports journalist where you write about a win, play by play recap from games, important plays, about the players, and anything involving the team that the employer may be representing.

There are many jobs to consider with in the sports industry and they don’t involve being out on the field but are as important especially a job like a sports psychologist. Mental health is a major key in sports especially since the brain in the most important muscle. As a sports psychologist the job is to focus on helping athletes rehabilitate their mental and emotional well-being especially after an injury. They also help the player deal with anxiety and the pressure that comes along with sports.

Each of these job descriptions offer an endless number of opportunities to still be involved in sports and make money in the field that is most suiting to the students degree and plans for the future.
