The excitement is palpable as Colorado prepares to host a segment of this year's NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament, affectionately known as March Madness. This annual event captivates sports enthusiasts nationwide, and having games in our state adds a special touch to the 2025 edition. Adding to the anticipation, Adams State University's esteemed cross country and track and field teams will be honored during one of the halftime ceremonies, celebrating their remarkable achievements this academic year.
March Madness Arrives in Colorado
The 2025 NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament kicks off with Selection Sunday on March 16, where 68 teams will learn their paths to the championship. The tournament begins with the First Four games on March 18 and 19 in Dayton, Ohio, followed by the first and second rounds on March 20-23. Colorado is set to host some of these pivotal early-round games, bringing top-tier college basketball action to our doorstep.
Teams to Watch
As the tournament approaches, several teams have distinguished themselves as contenders:
Auburn Tigers: Securing a top regional seed, Auburn has demonstrated consistent excellence throughout the season. Their dynamic offense and staunch defense make them a formidable opponent.
Duke Blue Devils: With a rich tournament history, Duke's blend of experienced players and talented newcomers positions them as a team to watch.
Houston Cougars: Earning a top seed, Houston's relentless defense and efficient scoring have been pivotal in their successful season.
Florida Gators: Rounding out the top regional seeds, Florida's balanced play and resilience make them a potential bracket-buster.
These teams, among others, will vie for the championship, making every game a must-watch.
Adams State's Moment in the Spotlight
Amidst the basketball fervor, Adams State University has its reason to celebrate. Our cross-country and track and field teams have long been pillars of excellence. This year, their accomplishments have garnered national attention:
Hall of Fame Inductions: Alumni Lauren (Martin) Masterson and Aucencio Martinez were inducted into the 2025 USTFCCCA Hall of Fame, underscoring the lasting impact of our programs.
Historic Achievements: Since 1971, Adams State has celebrated 60 national team championships, a testament to our enduring legacy in collegiate athletics. They continue that legacy today with the latest NCAA Division II National Title captured by the women’s cross-country team in the fall of 2024.
In recognition of these achievements, our teams will be honored during halftime at one of the tournament games held in Colorado. This acknowledgment not only celebrates past successes but also inspires current and future student-athletes.
